Security Guards and PIs Must Complete Continuing Education for License Renewal

CLEET requires continuing education for license renewal. Security guards, armed or unarmed, must complete 8 hours per licensing period. Private investigators, armed or unarmed, must complete 16 hours. Combination license holders also need 16 hours total.

CE hours must come from CLEET-approved sources. CLEET-cataloged schools, recognized professional associations, or college credit (15 hours of CE per college credit hour completed). Hours can be reported as you complete them or submitted at the time of renewal.

If your CE is not complete when your renewal application is submitted, CLEET will not issue the renewal. A licensee who continues to work past their expiration date without meeting CE requirements is subject to disciplinary action.
