CLEET requires continuing education for license renewal. Security guards, armed or unarmed, must complete 8 hours per licensing period. Private investigators, armed or unarmed, must complete 16 hours.

On the evening of May 3, 2026, around 9 PM, gunfire erupted at an unsanctioned party at a campground near Arcadia Lake, about 13 miles north of Oklahoma City. On April 7, 2026, around 2:21 PM, 20-year-old Victor Hawkins entered Pauls Valley High School armed with two semi-automatic handguns. He pointed a gun at two students in the lobby and tried to fire. Expired CLEET Security Guard Licenses Over 30 Days Require New Application

CLEET security guard and PI licenses are renewable for up to 30 days past the expiration date. After that 30-day window closes, the renewal option is gone and you have to submit a new license application from scratch.

License Holders Inactive Over Five Years Must Complete Full Training Again

If you previously held a CLEET security guard or PI license and have been inactive for more than five years, you cannot simply reapply. CLEET requires you to complete all applicable phases of training again before issuing a new license.
