Service Description

Course Overview Become the coach others trust on the shotgun field. This course prepares qualified shooters to teach the NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course using NRA methodology—lesson planning, range management, target‐breaking coaching, and documentation that stands up to scrutiny. Built for Oklahoma ranges and clubs, with practical notes on local norms and best practices. What You’ll Learn (Instructor-Focused) Instructor role, ethics, and liability awareness; how to run a safety-first class How to teach shotgun safety, parts/operation, gauges & ammo, gun fit & mount, recoil control Target-breaking methods (sustained lead, swing-through, pull-away) and coaching progressions Patterning & chokes: leading a pattern-board lab and turning data into student-friendly advice Range operations: briefings, standard commands, cold/hot range, event flow for trap/skeet/sporting Malfunctions & stoppages across pump/semi/break actions—safe interventions as an instructor Diagnostics & feedback: reading misses, correcting eye dominance, mount, stance, and follow-through Evaluations & records: NRA lesson plans, performance rubrics, course reports, certificates Admin & credentialing: using the NRA Instructor Portal, reporting classes, and maintaining status Who This Class Is For Experienced shotgun shooters, coaches, and club/range leaders who will teach the NRA Basic Shotgun course School/youth program mentors (e.g., Scouts/4-H), church/security teams, and clay-sports organizers Instructors adding shotgun to their current NRA discipline stack Prerequisites Minimum age 18 and legally able to possess/handle firearms NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) completed within the last 24 months (if not current, BIT is included) Completion of NRA Basic Shotgun or passing the pre-course qualification (safety, gun handling, and demonstrated marksmanship) Strong command of safe gun handling and professional communication Oklahoma Note: This is an NRA credential, not a state license. It does not replace CLEET certifications or any state/agency requirements. Some employers or programs may have additional policies (background checks, RSO status, etc.). Course Format Classroom modules: instructor ethics, lesson planning, diagnostics, documentation Teaching practicums (“micro-teach”) with peer and instructor feedback Live-fire coaching rotations on clays; range-management drills and emergency procedures

A-TAC Academy does not issue refunds, if a student is unable to attend their scheduled courses they will need to reschedule them.
